Who is my College of Nursing advisor?

Which courses count as upper division nursing electives?

Depending on your program, your advisor may send you a list of approved Nursing Electives via email. Explore the available nursing elective courses by checking the course catalog or discussing options with your advisor.

How do I obtain my scrubs for clinicals?

The UNM College of Nursing has partnered with Scrubs & Beyond to make the scrubs ordering process easier for incoming Pre-Licensure students. Your designated academic advisor will send you more information regarding scrubs via email or during orientation. Please refrain from ordering your own scrubs before receiving instructions from our academic advising office. Students admitted into a Dual Degree program should consult with their designated partner school for scrubs.

Yes! All students who anticipate to graduate must complete an intent to graduate form that corresponds to their program:

Pre-Licensure BSN form

Online RN to BSN form

All Graduate Programs form

When is the deadline to register and/or drop my courses?

Semester deadlines can be reviewed through the Office of the Registrar.

Am I eligible for Financial Aid?

For questions related to tuition and financial aid, please contact the UNM College of Nursing Financial Aid Office.

I have holds on my academic account that prevent me from registering, how can I lift them?

There are a variety of holds a student can encounter on their academic record and each hold may be placed by a specific UNM Department. Please contact the College of Nursing Advising office for guidance on how to resolve them.

Where is the UNM College of Nursing Academic Advising Office located?

The UNM College of Nursing Academic Advising Office is located in the College of Nursing/College of Pharmacy building on the 2nd floor, room 255.

Does the UNM College of Nursing have an orientation for incoming students?

Depending on your program, you will have to complete a nursing-specific orientation. Your nursing-specific orientation is separate from UNM’s New Student and/or Transfer Student orientation.

Orientation for all graduate nursing programs is mandatory. Orientation for graduate nursing programs includes the first class of every course. If you are unable to attend your graduate nursing orientation, please reach out to graduate academic advisor, Angelica Tafoya at AnLTafoya@salud.unm.edu.

While undergraduate orientation is not mandatory, it is strongly recommended to attend as you will receive critical information that will help you to prepare for your nursing program.

Who should I speak to regarding my clinical placements?

For questions about clinical placements and experiences, please reach out to the UNM College of Nursing Clinical Affairs Office.

If I am unsuccessful in completing a course, what options are available to continue my nursing program?

Depending on your program, you should plan to speak with your Academic Advisor to explore your options.

Information and forms related to graduate studies can be found on the UNM Graduate Studies website.

When does the UNM College of Nursing host Convocation?

The UNM College of Nursing hosts Convocation ceremonies for graduating students at the end of the Spring and Summer semesters. Any students who graduate during a Fall semester will be invited to walk in the following Spring Convocation Ceremony.

How do I order regalia for Convocation?

Graduate and undergraduate regalia can be acquired through the UNM Bookstore. The tassel color for undergraduate nursing students is Apricot.

Is Convocation mandatory?

Convocation is not mandatory for students to attend, but we would love to have you there!

What will happen to my diploma if I do not attend Convocation?

All diplomas will be mailed to the address listed on your academic record. To view your current address on file, please log into your MyUNM,then under the Student Life tab click on Enter LoboWeb > Personal Information > Personal Information View/Update.

When will I receive my diploma after graduation?

Diplomas are typically mailed to the address listed on your academic record 6-8 weeks after your graduation ceremony.

When will my Affidavit of Graduation be processed for my NCLEX exam?

Your Affidavit of Graduation is processed by the Academic Advising Manager in the order it is sent from the New Mexico Board of Nursing. Please review this video tutorial for more assistance with your NMBON (New Mexico Board of Nursing) NCLEX application.

How do I switch my major to nursing?

All students who are interested in pursuing a nursing degree through the UNM College of Nursing should meet with an appropriate pre-nursing advisor from the University College Department as well as the UNM College of Nursing Admissions and Recruitment Office for application assistance.

How can I change the amount of credit hours on a variable credit course?

Please refer to the Changing Credit Hoursvideo for instruction.

How can I obtain an HSC (Health Sciences Center) badge?

Badges are usually obtained during orientation for Pre-Licensure, ABSN (accelerated BSN), and graduate students. However, students who are interested in acquiring an HSC badge to access resources on UNM’s North Campus must do the following:

  • Contact or visit our office for a signed Badge Authorization Form.
  • Bring a current and up-to-date driver’s license.
  • Visit the UNMH (UNM Hospital) Security Badging office for your badge.
    • If available, one of our staff members will be happy to escort you to the UNMH Security Badging office.

MSN students program of studies and an announcement of examination.

ALL MSN students are required to submit a program of studies and an announcement of examination to UNM Graduate Studies through Grad Forms: Graduate Forms (unm.edu). These forms have specific deadlines. Please review the Graduate Studies website for Deadlines and Graduate Studies Forms :: | The University of New Mexico (unm.edu).

PhD students application for candidacy, an announcement of examination, and dissertation

ALL PhD students are required to submit an application for candidacy, an announcement of examination, and dissertation to the UNM Graduate Studies through Grad Forms: Graduate Forms (unm.edu). How long is my Nursing program? Do we attend summers?

What if I have a previous bachelor's degree? Do I have to complete the UNM General Education courses?

There are specific courses that can count towards your General Education requirements. Please contact your Academic Advisor for a review of your LoboTrax Degree Audit.

Is it permissible to take a temporary leave from my nursing program and return?

Please speak with your Academic Advisor to determine your options for a Leave of Absence. All requests for Leave of Absence will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
