How do you get a good fishing rod in fire red? ›

The Old Rod is located in Vermilion City in the house next to the Pokemon Center, simply talk to the fisherman. The Good Rod is located in Fuschia City in the house to the right of the Pokemon Center with the small pond in the back. Once again, talk to the fisherman.

In Generation I, the only Pokémon that can be fished out by the Old Rod is Magikarp, all of which would be level 5.

Staryu is catchable in Pallet Town, Cinnabar Island, Vermillion City, and One Island using the Super Rod, and is a LeafGreen version exclusive, so if you are hoping to get one in FireRed, tough luck.

The best fishing rods are the ones you are most comfortable using. Unsurprisingly, most beginners start out with fiberglass rods. Once you've picked a style and material, look for a rod that matches the weight of the lure or bait, and the size line you wish to use.

Obtain a Super Rod.

You will need the best rod in the game in order to catch Dratini. You can get the Super Rod on Route 12 in the house with a Fisherman inside. Talk to him and you will receive the Super Rod.

Keep giving your Magikarp enough candies until it reaches level 20. Feeding Magikarp a candy that turns it from Level 19 to Level 20 will immediately trigger the evolution.

Magikarp is a really common Pokémon and you'll get the chance to catch tons of them later -- but if you grab one now and stick it at the top of your party, you'll soon be able to evolve it into the powerful Gyarados. And yes, you do want one.

So if you've got the time, set Magikarp as your #1 Pokemon in Blue, Red or Yellow and withdraw it as soon as you enter a battle. Now beat your opponent with your strongest Pokemon and Magikarp will automatically gain experience. Once it's reached level 20, you can evolve it to Gyarados and kick major butt.

The house next to the Pokémon Center is home to a Pokémon trader. It's a pretty good deal, too -- so don't miss out on the trade. Simply bring a Poliwhirl to the trader and get the rare Jynx in return.

Which rod catches Feebas? ›

Use an Old Rod, Good Rod, or Super Rod to fish for a Feebas in the Route 119 river. Fish in each individual water tile multiple times to see if Feebas appears. This Pokémon only spawns in 6 total tiles on the river.

Blastoise, vaporeon, and gyarados are probably your bets choices, but there are tons of water types available. Dewgong, golduck, kingler, you have lots of choices.

The toughest to find were Chansey, Kangaskhan, Scyther, Pinsir, and Tangela, all of whom had a 1% appearance rate in different areas of the Safari Zone. I just used the surf glitch to catch everything, because I really didn't (and in fact still don't) have the patience to gamble and get lucky with these Pokemon.

Old Rod is from a fisherman in Dewford Town, just speak to everyone on the island. Good Rod from a fisherman on the route East of Mawile (requires surf to get to). The super rod is obtained from a fisherman in Mossdeep City.

The Good Rod normally allows encountering higher level Pokémon than the Old Rod, and the Super Rod normally allows encountering higher level Pokémon than the Good Rod.
