A video has recently made the rounds on Telegram and other platforms purporting to be a message from Elijah Wood to Volodymyr Zelenskyy offering rehab in the US. The idea that Zelenskyy is a drug addict has long been a pushed in pro-Russia information spaces, to the point where it's also a meme elsewhere online. What we see here is highly likely to be a message commissioned via Wood's Cameo, a platform that lets you request personalized video messages from celebrities. With Telepathy Pro we have identified 15 cases of the video being shared without credit to the original sources. In total, 17 messages containing the video have been forwarded 3,737 times with a total accumulated view count of a quarter of a million.Overwhelmingly, the messages attempt to seed the idea that you can't find the original video because Instagram suspended Wood's account (he does not have a public Instagram account). As a result, the video first identified as being posted on the 20th July has quickly spread both on and off-platform, including to Twitter via the post below. While not yet attributable, the content has also been amplified by pro-Kremlin and Kremilin-affiliated accounts, included by Ukraina[.]ru, the Ukraine-focused Rossiya Segodnya (Russia Today/RT) entity. It's post came an hour after the first identified instance of this video.

Do viral videos bring justice or fuel misinformation? There's no definitive answer to this question. Quoted in today’s BOOM News Read full article at https://lnkd.in/dsYN-fkRSharing my take on Pros and cons of Virality and how does it affect us as a society. While the incident quoted here from Manipur exemplifies the powerful impact of viral images/videos, serving as catalysts for change and amplifying issues, it also highlights our dependence on them to recognize the gravity of certain matters. Unfortunately, it took the video going viral for attention to be drawn to this serious case, which had already occurred days prior.Authenticity is a big concern, as misinformation and Manipulation and Propaganda can easily thrive, with context often being lost in the process.in today's social media-driven society, there is an Overload of emotionally charged viral content which can lead to emotional fatigue and desensitization. Viral content is influencing behaviours and opinions, leading to mob mentality or vigilantism and can contribute to societal polarization. We need to maintain a balanced perspective with less of emotional reaction and more of critially thought response.#manipurviolence #viralvideos #viralvideoimpact #socialmediajury #cyberpsychology #mediafeature #media #niralibhatia

Why do I take a social media detox once in a while?Let's rewind to the year 2020We were boycotting Bollywood, lockdown happened, Covid, Oxygen cylinders, Masks and news of alleged murder of a celebrity & his media coverage was on peak those days. And honestly, that's the year I was active on twitter like never before.Of course, Social media is for free speech and you cannot stop someone from expressing their opinions. And when one of your tweet gets viral, you gotta keep up with whatever comes.Unfortunately, I did not know how to handle it back then.Engaging in a debate with a random individual, I encountered a situation where, lacking logical arguments, my opponent resorted to a personal attack, suggesting I "should be in a mental asylum."Reflecting on this now, I realize how much it impacted my mental well-being, It took a toll.It made me ponder the challenges faced by Public person who endure such scrutiny on a daily basis and how they often choose to ignore it altogether. It instantly made me think of those celebrities who go through that every single day and what do they do?They ignore all of it.This post was just a reminder for you that when you are on your social media it's all about "your free speech" but don't forget that the other person has the same rights, Don't let yourself suffer because of someone's unreasonable opinions. What's your experience? Share it below#manumwrites #socialmedia #mentalhealthmatters

Social media platforms are parasites. But that isn't always a bad thing.1. Some relationships are symbiotic: both the human and the bacteria in your gut provide provide benefits for each other. The bacteria in your intestine helps with digestion, killing bad bacteria, and boosting our immune response in exchange for you eating a large variety of foods. Facebook has a symbiotic relationship with users. It exchanges information and entertainment in exchange for our data. We can argue that Facebook takes more than it gives, but the relationship still produces benefits for both sides.2 Some relationships are accidently harmful. Ticks, for example, attach themselves to the host. Sometimes, as the tick feeds, it passes along Lyme Disease or Rocky Mounted Spotted Fever. It wasn't the intent, but where the tick has previously fed can cause the host disease. X (the service formerly known as Twitter (TSFKAT)), has spread a fair amount of misinformation. Someone unknowingly tweets (Xes?) a false story, it soon spreads to larger number of people, harming each one it touches.3. Some relationships are strictly one-way. The early COVID-19 virus and its early variants infected the host so that it could reproduce and spread. In exchange, it . . . . gave the host severe symptoms and possibly killed them. Any platform that requires a user to hand over data in exchange for noting but disinformation, manipulation, agitation, and propaganda symbolically "kills" the user.4. Sometimes the relationship moves beyond one way and just decides to kill. Fleas transported by rats spread the plague across Europe via boats, wagons, and just walking. The flea bites spread the plague and killed about 25% of the European population. With further polluting of the media ecosystem of misinformation, disinformation, propaganda, and agitation, it is easy to see how not only users suffer, but also society and culture being weakened by the poison in the fleas.Social media can be helpful, but we have to address the toxic ecosystem. Bad actors need to be identified and neutralized and we need to stop sharing the polluted#socialmedia#technology#artificialintelligence#innovation#communicationJonathan Bertrand,Leiah Groom-Thomas,Amy Wingfield,Daniel Enescu,John Estes⚕,
